Gaby Alter is a songwriter and composer for stage, film and other media. A recipient of the Jonathan Larson grant, he is also the winner of an ASCAP Plus Award in musical theater, Best Score Awards from both the San Diego and San Francisco Theater Critics' Circles, and an ASCAP Composer's Spotlight for his film work. 

 

Gaby's musicals include the New York Times Critics' Pick NOBODY LOVES YOU (Second Stage, Old Globe) written with Tony Award-winning playwright Itamar Moses (THE BAND'S VISIT). He wrote the song "The Frigate That Flies" for the Disney animated feature "Tinkerbell and the Pirate Fairy," sung by Tom Hiddleston. Other musicals include BAND GEEKS (Goodspeed Musicals, published by Music Theatre International) which features the popular audition song 'Lost In The Brass'; and songs for STARS OF DAVID (DR2 Theater, National Tour) alongside Broadway writers Jeanine Tesori, Marvin Hamlisch, Tom Kitt, Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater.

Gaby has written film scores that  have premiered at South by Southwest and the LA Film Festival, and for PBS, MTV and independent films. His musicals have been performed on three continents and continue to be produced regularly throughout the United States. He has co-written songs with "nerdcore" rapper MC Frontalot which have over 2 million views on YouTube and 4 million streams on Spotify.

Current projects include THIS SHOW IS MONEY, developed with Crystal Skillman as part of The Civilians R&D Group, and RADIO 930, with Josh Billig, about a pirate radio station in 1980s East Berlin.
